How do you ladies handle swimsuits while remaining modest? I am quite perplexed on this one and my daughter is now 9mo. and loving the splash pool at the park. I want to be able to get into the pools with her but feel EXTREMELY uncomfortable in a normal swimsuit - I know it does not conform to the modest standards of dress. Curious how others handle this situation.
Personally, I think swimming in public is almost always immodest to a degree and if one has doubts about it, there is no loss is not doing it. *gasp* We agree!

I have to take four daughters swimsuit shopping in about an hour. I am soooooooooo dreading this. Pray for me!!! I will pray for you because I know how dreadful that is. There is a lot of pressure to conform to their wishes quite simply because you love them. Don't. They might be angry with you now, but it's a good thing they weren't designed solely to be happy with you. They were designed to make God happy, not you, and they would do well to always remember that. They might not thank you now, but they'll thank you one day, even if it's not until after they've left this world.

Simply modest suits are sooo much cuter than wholesome wear. http://www.simply-modest.com/posecom/I wear long swim trunks with a swim shirt and have my girls wear board shorts over their suits for now. Those actually look quite sexy to me, or maybe it's the girl in it. Sorry, single guy moment. It's the pose... Ought we not be able to think of the beauty of the human body rather than just falling in depravity? I'm not saying we should accept and go with today's fashions, but we also can't fall into Puritanism.
AMEN!

Thanks, we did okayish I guess. Three out of four have swimsuits. Just plain ol' one pieces or two piece that covered the mid drift. I have to try another store for one of them. It was a trial, alright. I'd like to dress them in loose fitting bike clothes but I don't want them growing up and saying, "My mother was a religious freak." So, at least no bikinis our high legs, and no low cuts. They're pretty good about that. Me, I get he same ol' suit I've worn for the past three years...It's still good. Skirted. But no cheeks Satori, no way. That's so vulgar.

Midriff This forum certainly attracts these sort of errors. Recently, I've corrected "baited breath" and "peaked interest".

Oddly...both of these are of equal modesty...that is to say, they are both acceptable in this time place culture...and their respective situations.
No, they really aren't... One is close to the most revealing our culture would allow given the time and place, while the other is not.

Sorry, I forgot a "don't" in there somewhere... Just kidding. When it comes to questions of morality, I think we should err on the side of morality and even when we are convinced of something not being inappropriate, we should avoid causing scandal for others. Let us not therefore judge one another any more. But judge this rather, that you put not a stumblingblock or a scandal in your brother's way. So, when we disagree on the forum, keep in mind that I am discussing it here openly because it can be done. In more personal situations or with those with whom I would be unable to discuss the matter, I would never push my thoughts unless I thought the other were in the wrong morally.

A lot of you have mentioned shorts or a modest swimsuit with a skirt. My concern with these would be that they do not follow the Church's rules on modest dress that require women to wear skirts, not "trousers" and that a woman's skirt should fall below the knee when sitting down. There is also the issue that neither men nor women should wear any clothing that clings to the body. Am I missing something here? Yes, the standard once offered for modestly at Mass was to keep shoulders down to knees covered (short sleeves of some sort required at minimum), no more than a couple inches below the knave of the neck for necklines (I don't recall the exact measure, but you get the idea), and no skin-tight or transparent clothes count. But you show me where the Church (as in the the pope or Magisterium to the whole Church of all time, not just one religious speaking to their own times) teaches that women shouldn't wear pants, and I will get you a great deal on a bridge...

What is the "knave of the neck"?
