I think breast-feeding should be done in private. It's an unnecessary exposal of the woman's breasts and offends public decency.
If you have a hungry baby, it is necessary. Ideally, one feeds one's baby in a quiet, clean and pleasant place. But sometimes the baby becomes hungry when the ideal situation is not available. There is something wrong with a "public decency" that requires hungry babies to be left screaming while their mothers are present wanting to feed them. The mother should be able to find a more private place. Furthermore, there are also baby bottles.

As for my country, women don't breast-feed in public.
Maybe they do and you don't notice. It is not necessarily obvious.

What's wrong with baby bottles?
Lots of babies take them. My mother used baby bottles when I was a baby as well.

Baby bottles were made by people, often to "free" women from their natural role as mothers. Breast milk is by far better for babies and many studies show its benefits. Feeding babies with a bottle can interfere with the mother's milk production. A private place is nice if it is available, but babies need to be fed when they are hungry, not only when the situation is ideal. Vetus, you are a very smart person, but I suspect this is not a topic you know very much about.

The first mother I knew with a new born, found a breast pump very useful for those reasons.

There are "studies" for everything, it depends on the fashion of the day. I'm not denying that natural breast-feeding can be done, I only frowned at it being done in public. The alternative for those situations would be baby bottles.

There are "studies" for everything, it depends on the fashion of the day. I'm not denying that natural breast-feeding can be done, I only frowned at it being done in public. The alternative for those situations would be baby bottles. The evidence in favour of breastfeeding is overwhelming. I have never seen anyone knowledgeable question its superiority. Here is an excerpt that explains the problems with bottle feeding for public situations: Offering breast milk in a bottle is often suggested when the debate on breastfeeding in public hits television or radio talk shows. But that option offers problems for the mother and baby that may be overlooked by the general public. First, it takes extra time and care to pump, store, and transport milk - time that may be precious, particularly in the early weeks and months. Babies receive fewer of the benefits of breastfeeding when they receive human milk that is not fresh from the source. They also run the risk of developing nipple confusion - having trouble switching back and forth between breast and bottle. Mothers run a higher risk of developing a plugged duct or breast infection because of the delay between feedings at the breast, particularly in the early months. A mother who skips feedings will probably be very uncomfortable from full breasts. If she is unable to pump her breasts, her supply will probably decrease slightly. So she'll still be experiencing the consequences the next day, when her baby nurses more frequently to replenish her supply. She also loses the convenience of being able to soothe her baby quickly and easily while she is out. She may even run out of milk in bottles before she finishes her errands. All of the challenges of offering human milk in a bottle while in a public place can be overcome. But the bottom line is that many women find it easier, healthier, more economical, more ecologically sound, and more relaxing to fit breastfeeding in with all their daily activities than it is to fit occasional bottle-feeding in with their breastfeeding. The entire article is at: http://www.llli.org/NB/NBNovDec00p196.htmlAnother interesting comment from the article: Ironically, most breastfeeding women reveal much less skin while breastfeeding than the average jeans commercial reveals. Yet many people find one inappropriate and the other tolerable. Their concerns seem to stem less from actual skin exposure and more from cultural beliefs.

God made breasts to feed babies. How could bottles possibly be a better solution to His perfect, natural design? Do you presume to know better than God?

Why is it that so many young single men come on here talking about the evils of breast feeding in public- which ends up being at all. Why? This is a forum where people give their opinions. Furthermore, I don't happen to come on here to talk about "the evils of breast feeding". The topic just came about and I commented on it. I do not go on the men's forum and give my opinion on male masturbation or anything to do with the penis. I have no opinion because I have never had one and could hardly consider myself an expert on the subject. This infuriates me to no end. Nobody's stopping you from giving your opinion on these subjects. On the other hand, it kind of baffles me that simple discussions as these "infuriate" you "to no end".
