Hey,

I bought the Lancelot Andrewes press translation of the Bendictine matins.  Does anyone think its bad to pray this, since its obviously never been approved by the church?  I just want to experience the office of matins, but there is no translation put out by St. Michael's abbey, or anyone else right now. Huh?

In an attempt to help Laszlo, I purchased one. It was in an effort to get an English translation for the Benedictine nocturns. Before I purchase it, I checked with a Benedictine Oblate I knew and he checked with Dom Alcuin Reid. Dom Alcuin Reid suggested it's use as it was a good translation though not Catholic. I personally do not use it for the office just for translation, I use Laszlo's web site if I am praying the Benedictine nocturns. It is in English and Latin, but it is an approximation of the Kalender from 600 AD.

Tim: Your purchase just reminded me of something you wrote the other day re the Collegeville edition of the Divine Office. You wrote that lauds was not printed properly. Something about "losing the red". I checked mine last night and found no problems. Can you be specific and relate a problem with a cite to a page and volume?
Thanks, Dave

Tim wrote about The Monastic Diurnal. I have my copy too from the same publisher, and that is blameless. Apparently he got a bad single copy.

Laszlo is right it is only mine, but I thought you should check. It is missing the red rubrics in a random fashion. It is missing the first Capitals in certain psalms. Go to Lauds mine starts there.
