"It is questionable whether the proper functions of Catholics is to hunt down, "expose" and condemn Catholics they suspect of undue rigidity, disobedience or "material schism"; especially while giving support to a Vatican ecumenical campaign which addresses heretics and actual Schismatics as "separated brethren", Jews as "people of the covenant" and Muslims as "people of God". This is part of the overall contradiction (or inconsistency) that permeates the "conservative" mentality. Cloaked in a pledged loyalty to all things "whatsoever" emanating from the Holy See, many "conservatives" will go beyond the measures taken by the Church leaders, or even disagree with their actual positions. The Hawaii "excommunications" were an obvious example but others can be seen. "Conservatives" denounce as "Schismatic" all those who set foot in SSPX chapels while the Vatican embraces the Schismatics in China. "Conservatives" deny any significant change at the Second Vatican Council while the Pope celebrates the enormity and impact of the changes. "Conservatives" seek the conversion of the Eastern "Orthodox" while the Vatican promises not to "proselytize" them. "Conservatives" deride American bishops while the Pope appoints and promotes the same ones." -Peter Miller "Tolerance is the last virtue of a depraved society When an immoral society has blatantly and proudly violated all the commandments, it insists upon one last virtue, tolerance for its immorality. It will not tolerate condemnation of its perversions. It creates a whole new world in which only the intolerant critic of intolerable evil is evil." - H. Gibson(5 x 10 x 17) x (5 x 10 x 17) ≠ 722,500

I forgot to add: the fact that IQ correlates well with success is the main reason it's stupid to brag about it. Think about it: if you have a high IQ but you've been knocking around at minimum wage jobs all your life, anyone you brag to is naturally going to think, "So, what's your problem then? Why aren't you splitting atoms or testing cancer cures on monkeys or something?" (Or he'll just think you're lying.) If you brag about your high IQ and you don't have any accomplishments to go with it, you're basically telling people you're lazy or have some kind of emotional problem that keeps you from doing anything useful with your brain.
On the other hand, if you've got a high IQ and accomplishments to go with it, you're going to brag about the accomplishments, not the genetic trait your parents gave you that made the accomplishments possible. NBA champions brag about their rings, not about how tall they are.
But this is not true. You're assuming, as many people assume, that people who are very intelligent are all scientific, or bright in some other way that is readily marketable. But they're not. What about highly intelligent artistic or literary types? Sure, some of them may get a mainstream job that uses their abilities and allows them to succeed in the monetary sense. But not everybody cares about that. I used to work at a small museum; most of us were smart and none of us were getting paid much. We were there because we were interested in our work. One of my coworkers was actually amazingly like Herr Mannelig except that his area of interest was painting. If he could pay his bills and have time to make his paintings, that's pretty much all he cared about. He would have been miserable in a prestigious position; I would, too. We weren't social misfits or losers, we just cared about different things.

I want to be a writer (writer of many things) and my dream would be able to get enough money doing that. I only would need around what I make now (which is not much), but I would be very happy writing. Until then, my job is good enough.

I didn't mean you don't have many interests, but that your area of expertise and your preferred work are different from his. He also had a number of interests, but all he wanted to BE was a painter.
