If I recall, the Vatican's publishing house offers a leather Latin LOTH, too. 'but not at 900 clams. Wow.

Yes, their leather one is about $196 per volume, http://www.paxbook.com/algorithmiS/servusPrimus?iussum=monstraScriptumEditum&numerus=1219

and the economical one $87, http://www.paxbook.com/algorithmiS/servusPrimus?iussum=monstraScriptumEditum&numerus=1218

This is the one I would go for if I were getting the whole set. For now I have Lauds & Vespers for practice, to pray along with the regular LOTH, http://www.amazon.com/Lauds-Vespers-Latin-English-Enlarged-English/dp/0970402295/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1290848157&sr=8-6

This $900 set was printed by the Midwest Theological Forum, the printing house for Opus Dei I believe. They also have a Hardcover version for $450, http://www.theologicalforum.org/product.asp?ci=26&pi=420  I agree that $900 is too much .. I would feel so guilty buying those ..

The problem with that volume is that it's shoddily produced (or at least mine was). The ribbons fray, the pages fall out (!), and the page corners are not rounded.

I promise not to put anything here which might help us question our mind-forged manacles, inspire us, or help us in any way at all.

N.B.: I will not be posting on this site again until the Christmas octave. Have a good Advent.

That is true. It really has the quality of a highschool textbook. I have the regular sized one, which I think is out of print now, and it's like that. I don't know about the large print one. By the way, do you know you can follow hear Lauds, Vespers & Compline in Latin every day from Rome here? http://www.oecumene.radiovaticana.org/en1/on_demand.asp?gr=ltg (readings and intercessions are usually in Italian or Spanish though) I like to follow along with this when I can for practice.

I do think there is a serious move to reincorporate Latin in the life of the Western Christians, even if slow. Many cloistered communities of nuns I know of at least are using more and more Latin and transitioning over to praying the LOTH completely in Latin. Just learned of a new community doing this the other day.  Smile
