Dickens on the Strand is a festival held on the first weekend of December every year to celebrate Galveston's Victorian-era heritage. Here's the official website. I believe this is the first year the festival really tried to promote steampunk in addition to the usual stuff. At any rate, Here are some pictures I thought were interesting. The first couple of ones have me in them, of course, in the green jacket.

This one features a steampunk Santa Claus:

The guy in the booth is Mr. Sozo, acting like one of those mechanical fortune tellers.

Some other random fellows:

At least some of the actual cops patrolling the festival were dressed as bobbies:

Good times! As you know, my family used to go to this event every year. I've not heard of anything like it anywhere else.

A monogoggle. It's for decorative purposes at the moment.

Cool I wish we had something like that around here but all we celebrate from that era are Cowboys and Indians and mining.

It's comfortable enough. The multilayered clothing of pre-modern dress was designed for cooler climates than what Texas usually offers in an era when central heating hadn't been invented yet. I won't deny that if style isn't a concern, pre-modern fashion is outmoded. Even a modern necktie is strictly decorative for most men.
