I know no one means any harm, but we need to be careful that what we post doesn't become an occasion of sin for someone else.  If someone might be able to form a visual of something, better to err on the side of caution and leave that bit out.

Otherwise, carry on.

Thanks for the reminder. I will modify my previous post.

ooops- i see you already did.

I wonder if the confusion that people have with this issue is similar to the one I have, where they are so encumbered by lust that they are unable to see sexual desire, or sexual drives as they are meant to be in God's order of things.  Many people nowadays spend their lives equating sex with lust rather than love and this is why a high sex drive is often seen as a character flaw.

One way that I experience my sex drive is that I start getting cranky after a certain amount of time going without.  This irritability is an occasion of sin but I don't think it is the same as lust.

I have the same problem. My long period of enforced celibacy helped me with that.

The Catholic Church is seated in Rome among Italians, not in Utah among Mormons.  A high sex drive dealt with in an appropriate manner and with deference for the spouse is not a character flaw, it's how babies are made.  It can also be chemically based and have nothing to do with one's character.  It's no more a character flaw than a low sex drive.  Everyone is different.

Really, though, this Jansenist-Calvinist hole-in-the-sheet attitude towards sex in marriage is ridiculous and unCatholic.  Deo gratias (most of) the Saints didn't have this attitude.

Well said sir. I was starting to think I had misinterpreted all the Saints writings and Church teachings on the matter the way some were talking.

I ground my faith upon Jesus Christ, and by Him I steadfastly believe to be saved, as is taught in the Catholic Church through all Christendom, and promised to remain with Her unto the world's end, and hell gates shall not prevail against it: and by God's assistance I mean to live and die in the same faith; for if an angel come from heaven, and preach any other doctrine than we have received, the Apostle biddeth us not to believe him. Therefore, if I should follow your doctrine, I should disobey the Apostle's commandment.

I would say that a high drive that the person has no control over could be a flaw.  But the flaw would be the lack of self control.  If the high drive leads to unreasonable demands upon a spouse, I would say that flaws of selfishness and lack of self control exist.  For example, having a large desire for food is not a character flaw...but not knowing when to stop is.  Taking too much food and not leaving enough for others is.

This subject always reminds me of the great split-screen scene in Annie Hall where they are telling their respective psychiatrists about the frequency of their sex life together:

Her (Diane Keaton): "Constantly! Maybe three times a week!"

Him (Woody Allen): "Hardly ever! Maybe three times a week!"

I kept on thinking of that, too!
