I have the feeling icecream is going to have all the fun, though.

He might.  In my attempt to foil the mighty Vivace, I took 75% of the faces on this grid from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Darn! It's working! LOL

17 is Rupert Brooke
25 = Thich Nhat Hanh

Correct on both counts.

7. Aly Michalka
8. St. Matthew
23. Ziyi Zhang

Correct on all three.

32. Wellington?

No, one century prior.  And American.  Tripartite name.

Several clues:

No. 5 is a French writer & rumored degenerate.  Also to her credit, she liked cats.

No. 9 is an English folk musician possessed of a uniquely haunting voice.  Of a considerably lesser distinction, she's the only female vocalist to be heard on a Led Zeppelin record (Robert Plant's banshee wails notwithstanding).

No. 24 is a 19th century American Catholic writer.

And no. 26 is a 19th century French abbé.

24. Orestes Brownson

Correct!

A selection of his essays should be required reading in American Catholic schools.

Allegedly libidinous.  Profession: muralist.
