Hawaii Five-O, I am very familiar with your case, and I want to say that you and your fellow SSPXers are my heroes.  Thank you for standing up for the Catholic Faith.  You have my appreciation and my prayers. Pray

I was a minor player in the whole affair.  My mother, God rest her soul, was the real force behind the events that transpired.  It all came to a head when she publicly exposed Bishop Ferrario and a number of priest as pederasts and organised a group which stopped the sale of St. Augustine Church, a Waikiki landmark, to Japanese investors who wanted to build a hotel. This deprived Ferarrio and his gang of much money which they were planning to finance their cushy gig with.  Bishop Ferrario thought an excommunication would shut her up!  Boy was he ever wrong...  LOL  My mom went after him like a pitbull.  The Bishop just included me in the excommunication, out of spite, to get one in on my mom.  I thought she was crazy to fight it all the way to the Rota in Rome, but she was right and God saw fit to use her as an instrument to bring about a victory for those fighting for the traditional Faith.  Deo gratias!

All the details are in Randy Engel's book  "The Rite of Sodomy — Homosexuality and the Roman Catholic Church".  Bishop Ferarrio escaped any real punishment, he died in retirement.  Fr. Joseph Bukowski, the Vicar General of Honolulu, was eventually sent to prison for molesting a seminarian.  Many, many more pederast priests in Hawaii escaped with nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

SLCFranciscan, I appreciate your prayers!   Please pray for the soul of my mom, Patricia Morley, who passed away in 1996.  Also, please pray for the souls of Herb Carlos and Louise Santos who both passed last year, they were also included in Bishop Ferarrio's excommunication vendetta.

Good stuff. There's a lot of salvation going on in the sspx. They really are a "remnant" of catholics who love a certain period in Catholic history, with all the good and bad things that that entails. The problem is that they have no authority and build their church largely on sentiment and ignorance. (That's not meant to be as harsh as it sounds - most of us are stuck with sentiment and ignorance down here!)

 Huh? some people just don't get it...  Shrug

I'm just tired of the SSPX being the whipping boys for the Modernists and the Neo-Catholics.  They are good men who suffer much and don't deserve it.

I'm with you.  Very little riles me more.  My tolerance is subzero these days and I am trying to figure out why.  Maybe all of this has gone on too long for me.  When you've been with it since the sixties, it can take its toll on you.

Hawaii, I remember your mother well.   God rest her brave Catholic soul!

1) The SSPX is a Catholic Fraternity of priests and bishops. They do not claim to be a separate church or even the Church. They are a faithful renmant of Catholics subject to the Pope and unlike Protestants, the Orthodox and the modernists posing as Catholics, the SSPX does not teach heresy;
2) Yes;
3) No;
4) In principle, the SSPX condemns these groups because of their unmistakable compromises with the conciliar church. In practical terms, though, there is often some cooperation;
5) The current Superior General is Bishop Fellay. Previously it was Fr. Schmidtberger. The founder was Archbishop Lefebvre.
6) A fallible pastoral council that wrought much damage in the Church.

I urge to investigate matters further. Take your time, there's lots of material to be read and many of your assumptions will be challenged. Pray to God that He may give you the grace to accept the truth.

I would have to take exception to your answer to 2.  SSPX masses are valid, but illict.  Priests of the SSPX are suspended a divinis for lack of ordinary incardination.  Of course, such suspended priests can still licitly administer the sacraments in cases of necessity.  And whether or not the present situation is a case of necessity, well...that's the crux of the controversy, isn't it?

UnamSanctum,

I've never attended an SSPX Mass (full disclosure: I did confess to Fr Ramon Angles once Entertained and Safe), but I fully agree with what Quis says below:

(E)verything you've heard about the SSPX, based on your questions, have been filthy lies.  I'm not upset with you for asking, Unam Sanctam; I'm just tired of the SSPX being the whipping boys for the Modernists and the Neo-Catholics.  They are good men who suffer much and don't deserve it.

Certainly, their masses are licit precisely because we are in a state of grave necessity.

This is beyond dispute.

"THE LORD is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the protector of my life: of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 26:1)

"And we, too, being called by His will in Christ Jesus, are not justified by ourselves, nor by our own wisdom, or understanding, or godliness, or works which we have wrought in holiness of heart; but by that faith through which, from the beginning, Almighty God has justified all men; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen." — Clement, bishop of Rome

"I love truth," says he, "and not sects. I am sometimes a peripatetic, a stoic, or an academician, and often none of them; but—always a Christian. To philosophise is to love wisdom; and the true wisdom is Jesus Christ. Let us read the historians, the poets, and the philosophers; but let us have in our hearts the gospel of Jesus Christ, in which alone is perfect wisdom and perfect happiness." — Petrarch

I dispute it.
