It has arrived wow!  I was under the impression they would not begin shipping until Friday. That is great news!

Yes - possibly postage from within the UK is a lot quicker than in the US?? They sent it out on Monday and it arrived the next day. I'm still picking my jaw up from off the floor.

Anybody else notice the new text on Baronius's Forthcoming Titles page?

FORTHCOMING TITLES



In the past, we listed information on this page about our forthcoming titles and approximate release dates. Despite our request not to be emailed for additional information, we continued to be inundated with emails asking for updates, progress, prices etc.

We appreciate the interest customers take in our work. We also understand that customers wish to get updates and are often very eager to order titles that we are working on. In the past we have discovered that progress on titles is not always as fast as we hoped for and customers then understandably became frustrated.

As we are a very small company with limited resources, we hope that our customers understand that we wish to focus our efforts entirely on producing titles. We have therefore decided not to list any information on our forthcoming titles. We will only release information about new titles when they are physically in stock and available to be ordered.

Yesterday, they had taken down the Forthcoming Titles page, so I e-mailed them asking about the Knox Bible.  I guess I got my answer.

Because an engaged and loyal customer base is such a pain.

I'm sorry but these guys are both 1) wonderful people for breathing new life into quality traditional publications, ans 2) truly awful business people.

Theyre basically saying "We're not capable of truthfully communicating accurate information to the people to whom we owe our success (customers) so we're basically not going to talk to them anymore because they're distracting and annoying."

If a real, established publishing ever house ever decided to carve out a new niche for themselves, they would slay these guys.

I agree with you, Allan. But, my suggestion is that we email them with ideas as to what they may want to bring back. From what I am hearing from those who have received the Breviary and from the reviews, they may have hit one out of the park.

Now, this may be an indicator of trying to keep their business before someone comes and steals it. We want Catholic Publishing houses to make our books. Benziger Brothers and Desclee are gone. And I have a feeling that the demand for Tradition and Traditional Books is just beginning.

Loreto Press is another house that is just hanging on by a thread, or so it would seem. I bought the Cornelius a Lapide Commentary on the Gospels over 3 years ago. They were planning on releasing everything he offered commentary on and this was to be just the first. I believe he put together commentary for the entire Bible, less the Book of Psalms and the Book of Job.

But, no news on anything forthcoming. It would be nice if they tackled the Epistles first. And start with St. Paul.

So I guess my main point is that they concerned with secrecy at this time and protecting their own business before a NY Pubishing House moves in on hard earned territory.

I agree with you, Allan. But, my suggestion is that we email them with ideas as to what they may want to bring back.

I've sent them an e-mail suggesting they print a complete book of blessings and a smaller almost one that can fit in your hand version.  it'll be good for others to remind them. hint hint

Are these a or the "acceptable" version of the Divine Office?
I think I might qualify to purchase after all.
I'm so confused over which year, which DO is recommended, preferred, Okay, etc.

Good points.  But I think they've hit that stage in their life cycle when they could really benefit from a professional Chief Operations Officer.  Perhaps, if they're going to the Venture Capital well again, they might consider partnering in an equity deal with someone ( ) who can bring sorely lacking operational expertise (e.g., bringing new products to market, supply chain management, business logistics, customer relations, etc.) to the table.

Just look at the error-plagued 1st printing of the LOBVM, shipment of humidy damaged products, the utter and complete fiasco that was the Breviary launch (NB: How many "pre-order" listed customers still got stiffed, do you think? hundreds?) - and on and on.

I have seen no evidence that these guys have learned anything.

But boy howdy, can they put a book together!  Their management is bumbling, but the books speak for themselves.
