When I was in nursing school we were old school uniforms. Pinafores with aprons and caps. They got in the way. Got in the way of what we had to do and technology. IV poles, IV pumps, ventilators, mechanical beds, oxygen tubing....I can't tell you how many times my cute little cap got snagged on IV poles.
Mine was the last class that wore those uniforms. In the early 90's the school went to scrubs and lab coats for everyone.

I asked my mom last night.  She wore her white dress and cap for her hospital clinicals as well when she was in school.  The only time I ever saw her in her white dress and cap was at graduation when I was a little kid. Smile

I've never seen any kind of scrub skirt.   They seem like they're kind of ugly...

I was constantly thinking about getting a scrub skirt made, but as I thought about it more and more, I really do think my scrub pants are far more sanitary and modest.

While I think the nursing dresses are the cutest (I know several nursing schools that use them for formal events, as well as having hats for formal events), I don't think they are practical anymore.

Men must find them attractive. I am given to understand that very skimpy nurse dresses can be purchased in certain speciality stores, right alongside the French maid uniforms.

I think the costume ones are popular, but I am talking the rather boring knee length ones. A Catholic uni that is often mentioned on here has their nursing students wear the dresses for white Mass, graduation, and several other formal events. I think for stuff like that, it adds an air of femininity and distinction. For everyday- heavens no!

Even secular nursing schools usually have a standard white dress uniform, often with pleated front plackets for graduation.

My uniform in school (secular) was a blue seer-sucker top with white bib and peter pan collar and full below the knee white skirt, this was in the early 90's.

Mr. T wore white scrubs AND no cap to his graduation.

... but what do you expect from a modernist. Sneaky Sneaky Sneaky Sneaky Sneaky

for shame!

He should have worn a white kilt!
