There are no Mexican teams.

I think an 18 game season will be worse for the long term health of the players rather than having the kickoff at the 35 yard line.

This reminds me; how can the Commissioner, owners, and players improve the NFL?

One thing I'd do is realign the divisions even more to make them more geographically coherent. They're better than what they were before the last realignment, but I'd put the Jaguars and Dolphins in the same division, giving them an interstate rivalry. I'd put some AFC teams in the NFC and vice versa to make it even more so. It may save money on travel expenses, too.

I definitely see where you are coming from with this, but the current divisions all have popular rivalries that no one wants to let go of.

True. Redskins-Cowboys, Jets-Dolphins, to give two examples.

I think greed wrecked football as it's wrecked baseball too. I'd much rather watch college games as those guys are trying to prove themselves and don't get huge salaries.

Except the pros are better.

You can't judge a person's level of devotion by how much they're paid.  Sure, some pro athletes dog it sometimes.  So do some amateur ones.  How much you're being paid has nothing to do with it.

Plus, the pros are simply better.  I don't watch sports (and this is just me) to get some kind of socio-economic satisfaction.  I watch them because they're entertaining.  How much a guy makes doesn't factor into it for me.

take a look at David Tyrees catch in the superbowl and then one of Moss's incredible one handers.  If you like tyree's catch more, is it because he's paid less?  No, it's because it's better.  And if you like Moss's catch more is it because it's better?  Yes.

Would you rather go to a local play put on by first graders or go to a professional theater?

I'll agree to disagree on this one. You're missing the fact that the pros come from the college ranks without which there would be no NFL. Calling college players amateurs (first graders!) is laughable.

I'm referring to any sports event that isn't professional.  And not all college players make the pros, neither do the ones that are good in college make good pros.  Ron dayne, tim couch, akili smith, ryan leaf... it's a long list.

Then to be more fair- rather go to a high school play or a professional theater?

Its not always about which level has more talent.  Obviously the proffesional level has more talent.  But the college teams and pro teams play different styles of football.  Same thing for college and pro basketball.  Thats why I like NFL football and NCAA basketball, they each play the style of game that I find most entertaining.

College football is for old men that can barely remember how difficult it was to finish with a degree. They return in the fall to feel young again, and if really successful walk by the Library named for him.

Where football died was by co-opting the AFL. That was a game. Broadway Joe, or Kenny the Snake, Al Davis and the Raiders cum street gang. The 85 Bears re-captured some of that spirit, but the NFL wasn't having any of that, so they were traded away.
