I mentioned on an earlier prayer request that an acquaintance of mine, who was received into the Church only a few years ago, has decided that he is now a Deist. It transpires that he was involved in Freemasonry at the time of his baptism, and presented himself for baptism with no intention of quitting Freemasonry. In the interim, he has decided that the Church is wrong about Freemasonry, and that he no longer trusts the Church's claims about her own divine foundation and her teaching authority. He has also made reference to the extent of hypocrisy in the Church which, I will grant, he has encountered more than most as a result of the bad company he has kept.

While he is trying to intellectualise his apostasy, I am convinced that Freemasonry's pernicious spiritual influence is the primary explanatory factor for his state: the old adage that "if you don't live as you believe, you'll end up believing as you live" seems to apply. Having gone through the various degrees of mainline Masonry, he joined side-orders such as the Knights Templar and the Scottish Rite, and seems intent on rising through the ranks of these various groups. He has stopped going to Mass, stopped wearing the brown scapular, and has referred sneeringly to scapulars as "lucky charms". He's promised that if I send him a green scapular he won't throw it away, though he does intend to put it in a desk drawer along with his other Catholic items. Those of you familiar with this devotion will know that this is a good thing, given the circumstances...

His family is not Catholic, and many people were aware of his conversion. Almost as many are aware of his having been involved in Freemasonry, so this "end result" may not come as a surprise to everyone, but I fear it will give scandal.

I would ask you all to please PRAY for this poor man. I am convinced that the prayers of the devout who read and post on this board may help towards his liberation from this evil sect, and, in time, to his receiving the graces necessary to repent and enjoy, at long last, the fruits of his baptism. Please post any prayers which may be appropriate to the circumstances, plus any advice you might have about how to proceed. If not inappropriate to the board, accounts of personal experiences of this kind of situation would be much appreciated. Thank you.

'O, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee and for those who do not have recourse to thee, especially the Freemasons and the Jews', St Maximillian Mary Kolbe.

Thanks all, and thanks Jovan for the prayer. St Maximilian does seem to be the go-to guy for this intention.

No prob. Despite the fact that the post-Conciliar MI has watered it down to 'especially for the enemies of the Church' in order not to 'offend' anyone, I still prefer St Max's original version. Smile

"THE LORD is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the protector of my life: of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 26:1)

"And we, too, being called by His will in Christ Jesus, are not justified by ourselves, nor by our own wisdom, or understanding, or godliness, or works which we have wrought in holiness of heart; but by that faith through which, from the beginning, Almighty God has justified all men; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen." — Clement, bishop of Rome

"I love truth," says he, "and not sects. I am sometimes a peripatetic, a stoic, or an academician, and often none of them; but—always a Christian. To philosophise is to love wisdom; and the true wisdom is Jesus Christ. Let us read the historians, the poets, and the philosophers; but let us have in our hearts the gospel of Jesus Christ, in which alone is perfect wisdom and perfect happiness." — Petrarch

The man who does not have enough of loving Christ will never have enough of fighting against those who hate Christ.
-St. John Chrysostom

I thank God that I live in a day when the enemy is outside the Church, and I know where he is and what he is up to. But, I foresee a day when the enemy will be both outside and inside the Church . . . and I pray now for the poor faithful who will be caught in the crossfire.
