Those clothes sure are ugly though. That was my first thought.
Very ugly.

i also must say that a skirt can be below the knee but if its see through it is very immodest.
Who do you know that wears see through skirts? Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a thing.

I'm sorry, but those girls are almost completely covered, and are not dressed in a provocative way. If a man still has impure thoughts from them then he should try harder not to look at all women impurely.
Yeah the thick tights actually do make a huge difference. I don’t think it would be the same without.

Who do you know that wears see through skirts? Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a thing. I've seen someone wearing a skirt that has the bottom half see-through and the top half solid. As far as visuals go, it was basically a mini skirt.

This has been a hard one for me but for the most part I can see where this rule comes from. If you look at pictures from the 1910's – 1920's, Women wore sleeves that covered the elbow. However it was part of the flapper style to boy-cut the hair (bob), bring skirt hems up, and for the first time, sleeves showed the elbow. I can see how this can be sensual. I have really noticed that many short sleeves can allow for bra straps to be seen or when women lift their arms you can see into their shirts. You can't really look at the summer time because if women can wear full burquas in the middle east desert in 130+ weather, I think we can manage with a ¾ sleeve in the summer here. I still have some short sleeves but I am really thinking on phasing them out. However, I know most will disagree with me on this subject but it is just my two cents. I just wanted to point out that there have been many times in the past where short sleeves, or sleeveless dresses were the style. The 1920s wasn't the first time this appeared. Personally I do not see how an elbow or upper arm can be seen as sensual. Neither of these dresses could be considered sensual in any normal sense of the word. That first dress is a good illustration of this whole thread.. the length seems pretty modest, - however that's the question, is it?? IS it modest truly, or does it only seem this way to us because we're comparing it to what we see in our society? For example, should the dress be longer, up to the feet, because it shows some skin? There seem to be two arguments: 1. it's okay to show skin if it's not much and it's still modest, or, 2. it's never okay so if you can't wear stockings, wear a longer skirt. I'm completely undecided right now. These dresses [swimsuit] are nice looking and modest. I have no problems with them.

That's another reason I wouldn't wear them.

Personally, I think the clothing in many of these pictures is considered immodest, although there is certainly much worse out there. ... and no, he has not trained himself to think any differently, just to see things consciously for what they are. Yes we are to live in this world but not be a part of this world. The closer you move to God, the more you begin to see the world as satan's playground - leading to a constant spiritual warfare. But you are right, there is such a thing as too extreme, except when trying to purify your soul, and in all areas we should strive to find the proper balance - the true modest approach.
I think being overly sensitive to mild occasions of sin is actually incredibly harmful for one’s soul. Instead of growing in charity we become hardened against the world, and have to further distance ourselves until eventually we can’t even step outside of the house without fear of an occasion of sin. This would be fine for a Monk or a Nun but Priests and everyone else who have to be in the world need to be somewhat desensitized or they will go crazy.

This would be fine for a Monk or a Nun but Priests and everyone else who have to be in the world need to be somewhat desensitized or they will go crazy. It might be a subjective thing. One person might honestly have the serious besetting sin of impure thoughts as his cross and just seeing a womans flesh might tempt him sorely [even if he is in the state of grace and well ordered] Another man might see the same thing and not be tempted at all [and he might be disordered and not in the state of grace] It is very possible to be in the world and also be in astate of grace and avert your eyes and avoid even venial sin.
