In retrospect, I should have made the bans temporary (well, all bans are temporary in the sense that they can be reversed any time) -- but I mean I should have stated that they were temporary and given the reasons why, especially since (hindsight!) it was pointed out to me that the post that triggered the bans was from August. I wish I had told them "OK, a week off for you because of..."
Couldn't you retroactively make it be a temp ban, if that is what you now think you should have done?
We are still being affected by the transition to you being an active moderator. You are finding out about things that happened months ago and they seem new to you, but for the people who have been here all along they seem old. It is an unusual circumstance, so maybe it would be OK to handle things in ways you wouldn't normally.
I am so glad I am not a moderator. It is one of the most difficult tasks I know of. One is always having to find a balance between opposing extremes. One could be too strict or too lax. One wants to be strong and consistent in enforcing rules, but there is also a time for being flexible. There must be dilemmas like this on a daily basis. I would be overwhelmed.
I am going to make a point to pray for you more, Vox, and I encourage everyone else to, as well.
