There are few things more painful than watching high school sports or high school theater productions.

Avoid.

Then you've never been to a high school art show.

This.

Don't forget those open mic nights. I had the misfortune of being present for those.

If it were me, I'd go opening night, but not tell him about it until after that night's show.

He probably won't be able to see you in the crowd anyway.

I'm not sure I could give good advice either way, as far as going or not.  But I definitely recommend honesty, if you trust your son.  What I mean is, don't go in disguise or anything like that.

I guess my suggestion would be respect his wishes-- if he's a good kid, he's kind of earned some independence.  Maybe think of it as a favor he's asking of you.

Of course, there's no harm in getting a video, if it's possible, and the dress rehearsal suggestion someone made might be even better.  Ask him about it.  Just, in my opinion, the most important thing is to be totally above-board in whatever you plan to do.  It's all about trust.

Not that I'm a parent-- I'm 29 and single, and I've pretty much never had a problem with my parents being anywhere I was.  But I've always been considered rather unusual...

So I talked with my son and convinced him that I should go to the play.  I told him that he should think about my reputation because people would think I was a bad mother if I didn't go to his play.  That made sense to him.  Smile

Nothing like a good dose of motherly Catholic guilt!

Love it!!!
