It's wrong, but that's how the modern world thinks. I don't think Tim is giving men a free pass. I don't think any of this applies (or should apply) to traditionalists, since we know better that, man and woman, we need to be chaste. I know how non-Catholic men think, and they view this as a sort of conquest, a competition.
No, it's not a traditional viewpoint at all, and yet it's being championed by supposedly traditional men who should be offended by it. And yes, Tim is giving men a free pass, whether it's obvious to you or him that he's doing it. As far as the joke, it clearly offended you, so I apologize in referencing it.
Thank you. These kinds of comments are so commonplace that it's probably not immediately obvious to men why they're offensive, but they are, so I appreciate you trying to see it differently.

"Tenthly, one should pour tea into the cup first. This is one of the most controversial points of all; indeed in every family in Britain there are probably two schools of thought on the subject. The milk-first school can bring forward some fairly strong arguments, but I maintain that my own argument is unanswerable. This is that, by putting the tea in first and stirring as one pours, one can exactly regulate the amount of milk, whereas one is liable to put in too much milk if one does it the other way round." What is the traditional viewpoint, then?
Because, think about it. Even when societies were better, isn't it true that men have always been given more leeway than women?

No. Only protestants and heathens did that. And it's always wrong.

And what kind of name is Foster Fries anyway? He sounds like a walking heart attack.

No. Only protestants and heathens did that. And it's always wrong. Is it possible...just possible...that maybe he was referring to "keeping ones knees together" to refer to contraception? ....because, you know, this HHS thing is about contraception? For women? About "women's health" issues? Take a chill pill.

The fact that contraception is considered only a women's issue is part of the problem, so I don't need you to point that out. You are also letting men off the hook. Nicely done.

No. Only protestants and heathens did that. And it's always wrong. What about all the illegitimate children Catholic kings fathered in other times? Obviously they were sinners and hypocrites. Men like Tim would love to give them a free pass but you can be sure God didn't. And in any case, this is about a double standard. Not about whether or not people have sinned. In order for your example to work, you would have to show that the mothers of those children were condemned by society and told to keep their legs shut. Were they?

This is not the first thread into which you have barged, acting like a women's studies major who sees everything through a lens of how many oppressive double standards have historically inflicted on women. And it gets annoying. I had enough of that in college. Name ONE thing in Scripture or traditional teaching that backs up this worldview. You know in the old testament, God the Father allowed for the death penality for women who tricked the groom's family into believing in her virginity before her wedding night? The onus is on women to be modest and chaste, and the onus on men to "keep it in their pants" (btw, if someone recommended that for men as birth control, I would find it amusing). Rape and adultery could be death penalty offenses in the OT for men, as well. Nobody is "letting men off the hook" but if you somehow think that traditional Catholicism has a problem with the idea of telling women to keep their legs closed, you are missing the point. What politically correct language for "don't **** outside of marriage" would help you sleep at night?

Please stop hallucinating Norbert. I haven't said anything that resembles something a women's studies major would say, so please try to be rational before expecting people to respond to your posts.
I have been arguing in favor of men telling other men to stop sleeping around. When is the last time you heard a feminist say that?
You know what's annoying and repetitive? Men like you who don't read.
