So for the last few years now I've noticed my hands shake slightly, especially when I'm holding them in the air or trying to do something. It has never really been an inconvenience for me before because I never engaged in activity that required precision - but now that I'm serving Mass it's become really noticeable. The cruets move around when I'm holding the tray, I need to hold the paten with two hands to steady it, and it's even difficult to light the candles properly. It's not really a big deal, but does anyone else get this? I'm only 20 years old and perfectly healthy.

So, I'm not a doctor but it might be:
1) side effects from coffee (esp. if you drink more than 2 cups a day).
2) nervousness from working under pressure

Have your blood sugar tested as a first step.there is something called "Essential Tremors".I would go on a good B vitamin regime with essential fatty acids/fish oils and light weights for you arms and upper body.

I did some internet research and think it might be "essential tremors". My sister also suffers from it.

I'll go to the doctor - but I'm pretty sure it's this. Luckily it's slight so is only noticeable when doing things that require concentration and precision like carrying saucers with coffee cups or plates with cruets. The internet says that a shot of liquor dulls the nerves and eases the tremors. Maybe I should start taking a flask to Mass Sticking tongue out at you

As far as I know Docs cant really do anything for you. I would start looking into food and supplements that support neurological systems. Vit B12 for example might be lacking.

'MPORTANT NOTE TO ANYONE WHO HAS A TREMOR - If you don't read anything else on this site please read this page regarding Vitamin B12 deficiency and Essential Tremor.  If you don't have the time or inclination to read the rest of this page you owe it to yourself to click on the following link  Joe's Discovery...

At the time of writing this page the link between Vitamin B12 deficiency and Essential Tremor is a tenuous one and further research will have to be done.

Within the last year two different members of this site have discovered they both lack vitamin B12 and lack of vitamin B12 is known to cause tremor!!!  One of our site member's head tremor completely disappeared after starting on her medication for vitamin B12/ foliate deficiency but hopefully I will be able to reprint both their stories here very soon.

It seems perfectly feasible to me that many of us, if not all of us may suffer from Essential Tremor because of a deficiency in vitamin B12"

Thanks, Habitual_Ritual.

I know a guy with a horrible diet who seems to have that, and he just accepts it. I may bring this up to him.

I've suffered from a nutritional deficiency before (although, not this one, one more dangerous).

Yep,starting with diet and nutrition is always the best way to go for the initial "treatment" for most problems although other factors can be involved too.And of course it can take months before positive change is noticed so don't get discouraged

I'm fine.

It is for someone I know. He shakes a lot and he explains it as "nerves", but I also know what is diet is like...
