I hate to complain and hate to seem as if I'm casting aspersions, but I could use a few prayers sent this way...

My wife informed me this morning that she doesn't approve of me taking our son to Tridentine Mass (when he's old enough, that is). She explained that she doesn't like the church we'd be going to and thus doesn't want me taking him there. Of course her dislike stems from the fact that the Mass is not in English and our boy would not understand and thus not want to be there in the first place (ignoring the fact that millions of Catholics managed just fine in the nineteen-and-a-half centuries prior to Vatican II). It also goes without saying that a dumbed-down Novus Ordo would be acceptable, but not the Tridentine Mass. Of course, she wants to take him to her Lutheran church when he's old enough, and would not appreciate me making a fuss about it (though it was already discussed that we'd divide churchgoing equally during any given month).

Yet it's us stinking Catholics who are un-Christian and intolerant. You just can't compromise enough with a Protestant  Hopping Mad Hopping Mad Hopping Mad

Get the kid in a Latin program as quickly as possible-- it's excellent for him academically, and then you can fire the "he won't understand anything" argument right back at her.

And yes, I sympathize with your issue with "compromise":  "compromise" is only praiseworthy, it seems, insofar as it distances one from the Catholic Church (the same thing goes for "open-mindedness").

That's not selfishness on your part, that's charity for your son and wife.

Thank you very much for the prayers, everyone!

And for strength in your role as spiritual head of the family!

That, too! I need that more than ever :(

Tell me about it.

Since we live almost an hour from the Institute's church (damn, how I regret moving out here), just getting to Mass more than once a month (given all the other obstacles in my way) is almost too much to hope for. I can handle Latin well enough on my own, so I'll just have to pray that I am enough.

Gah, I already weep for the future.

That's not selfishness on your part, that's charity for your son and wife.

 Pray

Thank you for the kind reassurance, but I know it's not selfishness on my part. Sadly, I know all too well where it is.

I just pray that the Lord reduces the angle of my uphill battle from what seems like 90 degrees to something a bit more manageable...

Have a Mass offered for your wife's conversion, maybe even find a worthy group like the Universal Living Rosary Association or the St. John Cantius Society (forgot their official name) to have Perpetual Masses offered. Both ask for only a $25 donation for the enrollment.
