I would say that this is a good solid examination of conscience

there is another but I cannot find it at this time that is even better I believe the title is examination of conscience for teens.  it has things that I didn't even think teenagers did  Shocked it also gives really good  explanations for confession, mortal sin, imperfections, etc.  it is quite a nice thick book and I believe it is printed my a leaflet company

Someone on CAF recommended Particular Examen by James Francis McElhone. Has anyone here read that?

I have a somewhat lengthy examination of Conscience in a prayer book. But, it doesn't distinguish between mortal and venial sin. And that could be a problem for a scrupulous person.

The recommended books here have the same problem?

Blessings!

I have and so has my wife. I think it is very good. Not familiar with any others, so can't say it is best.

The one Scriptorium linked to from Fraternity publications is amazing. I have a copy, it is the most extensive I have ever read, it really gets down to the nitty gritty. It is pretty thorough and detailed.
