Hi again folks. It's been a while. I know I could rely on you to help me each year or however often I go on vacation.  This year I'll be doing lots of hiking.

I'm going to Flagstaff, Arizona and will be coming back on a Sunday, so I'll have to go to a vigil Mass on Saturday. I'd like to go to a traditional Latin Mass but I don't think there are any except for on Sundays.

Anyhow, could you recommend any Novus Ordo parishes in the area that aren't stuck in the 60's or at least have Mass without any innovations. If not, I'll just prepare myself for the worst. but a beautiful Mass would just top off my personal retreat/vacation nicely.

Muchas gracias (I had some coffee and feeling a little español this mañana)!

There is only one parish in Flagstaff, and they are so far stuck in the 60s that attending any of the NO masses is a horrendous experience.

The only ones I could really recommend are the masses at either Guadalupe or Nativity. Just pray that you end up with one of the less heterodox priests. If you can possibly make it, there will be a Tridentene Mass in the Nativity Church at 12:30 this Sunday. They only have it once a month. This parish is not exactly trad friendly, to say the least.

But yeah, avoid the all but the two churches listed above like the plague. The names of the tolerable churches are:

Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel
Daily Mass: Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 5:30PM
Sunday Mass: 9:00AM

Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Chapel
Daily Mass: Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 8:30 AM
Sunday Mass: Tridentene Mass: 12:30 PM every third Sunday, otherwise 8:00AM for the NO

Good luck!

Here's the parish website, which will have more locations and times for you, since you're looking to get to a vigil mass. The site is extremely out of date, but their vigil mass times are still accurate.

Like I said, good luck on that front. DO NOT attend the 5:00PM Saturday mass over at St. Pius X. It's a "teen mass" and the last time I went the priest walked out dressed up as Larry the Cable Guy and made a mockery of the entire affair.

I forgot to add that Guadalupe has an 8:30AM vigil mass, that would be your best bet in this area.

Wouldn't a vigil Mass have to be in the evening, no?

Forgive me, I'm still learning the details on these matters.  Blush In that case, you would need to go with one of the other churches.

Whoa. I just read your profile. How cool. I you don't mind please recommend me a few restaurants. My wife and I are going on this trip. We may spend a day or two in Flagstaff, then head to UT for Canyonlands. As you see in the username, I enjoy sushi, but also steak and American food. Not so much into food that is considered chic, but open to it if it's that good.

Need to get in contact with a hotel today; I haven't booked a room yet, and the trip is next week, Monday!

I'm kind of playing this trip by ear. We'd like to go camping, but are not prepared for more than a day or two camping in either state. Would like to camp at least a day. May bring some Korean black bean noodles to make while at camp. It requires minimal effort. Either way I'm sure there's great things to see so long as it doesn't rain too much. I checked this morning and Flagstaff has a flash flood warning. :(

I'm back safely from AZ and Utah. Saw some of the most amazing natural landscapes and geological things out there! Deo gratias! Went to vigil Mass at St. Pius X. Folksy and a bit awkward but not the worst I've been to.
