Hello, everyone. I know it's been awhile, but we've been pretty sick over here for what seems like an eternity!
I just found out this morning that Monkey and I are expecting our third little bebe.
ÊWhile this is wonderful news, I am also more than a little scared.ÊLast December, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Although I have a great doctor who is handling this and keeping me healthy, I know that this makes things a bit stickier in regards to pregnancy and keeping the baby. I will be making an appointment with my OB\Gyn ASAP,Êbut please keep us in your prayers. Please pray that everything will be alright for our "Little Sprout" (as we like to call them at this point) and for me as well, that I can be healthy enough to be a "good oven". :D Take care, everyone!
Don't worry about the hypothyroidism. If it is under control it will have little to no effect on your pregnancy. Your OB will take your blood either each trimester or monthly depending on their choice. As long as your hormones stay well within the normal range all is well. The fact that you got pregnant shows that everything is probably ok. Uncontrolled hypothyroidism is a leading cause of infertility.
You may need an adjustment to your med during pregnancy and it is quite likely that you will need an adjustment postpartum. Be aware of symptoms that you might need an adjustment, better to catch it earlier than later. Quite often you will FEEL bad before any lab test will show the effects
To maximize your thyroid replacement do NOT take it with your vitamin, and do NOT take it with food. I find taking it at night just before bed is the best way.
Also avoid soy (bad for thyroid) and if you really want to be thyroid healthy avoid goitrogenic veggies like broccoli and cauliflower.
Uncontrolled, unmonitored thyroid disease is a problem. You are being monitored and it will be kept controlled. Just enjoy the pregnancy.
