On the ORLS site they have a free info packet you can request; I assume that would have the prices. Smile

Seton is conservative, not traditional, and I've heard it's getting more liberal the last few years.

I have heard good things about OLVS, and it is traditional.   I am so happy for you!

We use OLVS and it is without a doubt the best I've found!

What books  do they use?  Do they use their own publications or reprints?

They use reprinted books:

Little Angel Readers

National Catholic Readers

Saxon Math is available ; but not included in their lesson plans

Living in God World - Science

Baltimore Catechism

They use The Rosary Booklet; The Way of the Cross, also CD or cassettes of Songs for God and Country and 24 Catholic Songs

It's very easy to follow the lesson plans for newbies.

Cursive writing is introduced in kindergarten.

They use the Children's Catholic Picture Bible...and each lesson is based upon Catholicism and not secularism  Even the coloring books include:  Angels, Mother of God, etc.

You can view their book lists at www.olvs.com

Let me know if you need any additional information.

Just a teeny correction, easy mistake I know I've done it a thousand times surfing the net, it's www.olvs.org

I think I may go with OLVS.  I received a packet from Kolbe and  OLRS.  Kolbe doesn't seem to be enough direction for me, and OLRS  seems expensive.  I don't know, I have to compare prices on  shipping and how much books are between OLVS and OLRS.

National Catholic Readers

I used OLVS as well when I homeschooled my daughter, and I must say that Catholic National Reader was about the worst book they had. It was (for me) without a doubt the most extremely difficult book to teach AND learn. I read a lot of books for recreation, and even I had a hard time understanding CNR. *Shudder*  It will be a cold day in Hades before I ever even look at that book again.

OLVS will send you a sample of their lesson plans so you can take a look.  I heard from a student that used OLVS all the way through that the only thing she would change was the art--it's a lot of coloring.

thank you for the correction of the link org. and not com. Smile

One option for books is www.allcatholicbooks.com (i think .com)  they have lower rates and their shipping is lower...the shipping time, however, is somewhat longer.

I have not used that particular source but one of my very good friends has...her only wish was that she had ordered earlier.

Just a note; I used OLRS several years ago and was very disappointed in the quality of their materials....most seemed xeroxed at best; plus it was quite expensive!

OLVS is very reasonable.....around $500.00 for all books and tuition for kindergarten.

My daughter's #2 child will be starting kindergarten this year and the expense will be much less; as we have the teacher's manuals, etc.

Maybe prayers to St. Thomas Aquinas will help you make your final decision?
