In the same vein as Vox's "40's swing" thread, I thought I'd ask if I'm the only one on the forums who appreciates bagpipe music?

Scottish bagpipes and Irish Uillean bagpipes are awesome. Must say I prefer the Irish pipes myself, but they're both good!

Dominus Tecum,

Have any good links for bagpipe music?  I wouldn't mind listening to some now myself.

By the way, it's not just the Irish and Scottish that have bagpipes...the Italians and Poles do, too.  The Polish type is called the "dudy" and there is a lot of great Polish folk music out there using them.

I have a CD of bagpipe music and every "bubble bath" night (2 or 3 times a month) I plug it in relax.

I always cry when they play amazing grace. I know it's a protestant song but it's on the CD and it gets me every time.

I always wished I could play the pipes but I don't think I have the lungs (or the cheeks) for it.

The bagpipes are one of my favorite instruments too. They were played in various regions all over Europe.

You can read about the Italian pipers ("zampognari") who pipe at Christmastime here: http://www.kensmen.com/catholic/adventcribs.html

I was... until I was woken up at 6:30 one morning by about 20 bagpipes and seniors banging on my window. Not that I'm resentful.

Seriously, I do like bagpipes, provided they are played at apprioriate times of the day and the musicians actually know how to play one.
