I hardly think that a picture of Our Lord, or Jacinta, or anything else that is innocent for that matter, is a promotion of a pagan religion. I'm surprised you would think so.

I think perhaps he is referring to the name "avatar". If it were called a "profile picture" I don't think he would have a problem with it. Am I right?

I was just clowing around.

Pax Tecum got the joke.

The reason I don't have an avatar is that I am a cybernetic retard. I think a picture of Saint Jerome pouring over one of his books would be appropriate for me if I could fine some such thing.

Brennus, Something like this?

There is also another Albrecht Durer etching that is simpler, but I can't find it on the web.  It is of a saint (Benedict??) sitting and writing.  It is of a sainted monk, anyway.

Jennifer, if I may ask, without sounding too dense, what does your avatar mean? And what did the previous "Amo Mariposa" mean?

LOL! You aren't dense, DominusTecum! In my current avatar, "Papillon" is French for Butterfly, "Fleur" is French for Flower, and "Gazon" is French for Grass/Lawn.

In my previous avatar, "Amo Mariposa" is Spanish for "I Love Butterfly/Butterflies"

I like the color one. If I find something like that on the Internet, how do I go about sticking it there on the left side of the screen?

Find the picture you want. Resize it so that no side is larger than 120 pixels. The more perfectly square your picture is, the better it will look. Then, log in and:

  • Go to Control Panel at the top of the page
  • Click on Edit Profile
  • Click on the link that says "Upload an avatar from your computer"
  • At the new page, browse til you find the picture on your hard drive
  • Upload the file
  • Click the Submit button at the bottom of the main profile page

Dat's it! If you get stuck, I can do all this for you; I just need a link to the picture you want to use.
