I went to my first SSPX Mass today.

I enjoyed it greatly but the commute really limits me from making it a regular event, considering that the Indult Mass is about 5 minutes away.

I went to my first SSPX Mass last week. It was a great experience, although I think my city's indult Mass is "better". The SSPX priest says the Mass super-fast, while the indult priest says every Mass like it's his first one.

The FSSP priest at the Church I've begun to go to says the mass pretty fast. From other things about the priest I have deduced that he is very sincere and in touch with the Holy Ghost and that his manner of saying the mass is just his way.

His sermons sure are serious. Last week (I don't get there every week, it is an hour away) he ranted and railed against cremation as a Freemason plot to do away with the Catholic Church. Two weeks before that he told everyone to throw out their television sets. The first sermon I heard him deliver, he must have quoted a hundred different saints.

I'm sure at the bishop's Cathedral just up the street, it's all peace and love.

This fellow has a high forhead, thin hair, wild eyes and a squeaky voice. I think he is Saint Paul reincarnated (insert silly smile face here.)

Since I'm a radical, I don't mind radical sermons. When he led into the one about television this way "blah blah blah occasions of sin . . . mortal sin . . . so let's talk now about one of the greatest occasions of sin we have today, the televsion." I nearly jumped out of my pew and started screaming "AMEN" and speaking in tounges. Then I remembered I wasn't at an NO mass.

Let me guess . . . Father Tague? I went to Mass in San Antonio when I used to live in Austin (8 years ago) and Father Tague used to come from El Paso to offer Mass at St. Joseph’s. He is an excellent priest, but he does fly through the Mass rather quickly.

The SSPX Mass was very similar to the Indult Mass I attend, although the Sunday Indult is always a full sung high Mass, while the SSPX Mass I attended today was, I guess, a low Mass since it was just like the daily low Mass I attend at the Indult parish during the week.  There were two servers today though, so maybe that puts it in a different category :-)

The priest was apparently brand new this week, and I really liked him.  He was very careful and deliberate in his speaking and movements, and I enjoyed the sermon about St. Pius X and his efforts against modernism greatly.  Sometimes I wonder if my Indult priest doesn't have to "tone down" his sermons a bit in order to keep the Bishop happy.

It is a shame that the TLM is not more widely available.  I think many NO Catholics would appreciate it if they were exposed to it.

His name slips my mind (and my wallet, as I had to throw his card away so my mom wouldn't find it ) but it wasn't Father Tague. His name was, I believe, of Polish origin.

This priest says Mass super-fast for the same reasons, though. I didn't mean to imply that it was an intentionally irreverent gesture. This priest has to go to Corpus Christi immediately after the 10 AM Mass.

By the way, here's a liturgy question: at what tone of voice is the Words of Consecration supposed to be spoken in? This SSPX priest said them silently, while the indult priest says them semi-audibly. During the SSPX Mass, I was looking downward and totally missed the consecration of the Host. By the time I looked back up, Father was already consecrating the chalice.
