BABY QUILTS

OK...I know there are quilters out there....My qustion today is....Do any of you have favorite baby quilt patterns?

 

As you know, our family is having THREE new babies this year....One next month (Jack), and two in May (one is my daughter's, and one is my niece's...Jack will be my nephew's first baby.

 

Right now, I am busy making a little quilt for Baby Jack.  It has blue Saw-Tooth Stars, with a background of cream covered in tiny stars of various colors.  I will sash it in the same background, with cornerstones of different baby colors....blue, green, yellow and lavender...maybe pink. 

 

I also have the fat quarters for a pretty Yellow Brick Road, and Magic Squares.  There are so many ideas floating around in my head....I saw a baby quilt made of one patches, alternating with coordinating four-patches...It was so pretty. 

 

What are your favorites when making a baby quilt?

I made a whole cloth baby quilt once- it's the only one I've made yet.  But I should try my hand at it again soon.  My quilt will always remind me of when we got evacuated from our apartment due to an impending mudslide.   I took that quilt to do by hand in the hotel room.  It gave me something to do instead of worry.

WOW....What a beautiful little quilt!  I've done a couple of whole cloth baby quilts, but they were panels....I like to outline all the figures with hand quilting....Most of the time I keep a couple on hand to work on....

 

The pieced quilt I am working on now is very simple, but I have to cut out lots of 2 1/2in squres for the Flying Geese, and the corners of the Saw Tooth Stars.  I also need to cut out a bunch of cornerstones.

 

I love to do baby quilts...They are small, easy to work with, and don't usually take as long to make as larger ones.  In fact,  I've just started a collection of flannel Fat Quarters..I have both brights and pastels.  They are SO soft. 

 

FQ's are great....They can be used in scrappy quilts, and you can get ideas from them....then get more of what you need.  My problem is that I HATE to cut into my Fat Quarters....They are so pretty.. Sometimes it's enough to just look at them, or just touch them.....and imagine the possibilities .

 

Thanks for the link...I'll take a look....I've never done an all white whole cloth quilt like that....It would be a wondeful challenge....
