Evolution in the bible, says Vatican From: By Martin Penner
November 07, 2005 THE Vatican has issued a stout defence of Charles Darwin, voicing strong criticism of Christian fundamentalists who reject his theory of evolution and interpret the biblical account of creation literally.Cardinal Paul Poupard, head of the Pontifical Council for Culture, said the Genesis description of how God created the universe and Darwin's theory of evolution were "perfectly compatible" if the Bible were read correctly.  His statement was a clear attack on creationist campaigners in the US, who see evolution and the Genesis account as mutually exclusive. "The fundamentalists want to give a scientific meaning to words that had no scientific aim," he said at a Vatican press conference. He said the real message in Genesis was that "the universe didn't make itself and had a creator". This idea was part of theology, Cardinal Poupard emphasised, while the precise details of how creation and the development of the species came about belonged to a different realm - science. Cardinal Poupard said that it was important for Catholic believers to know how science saw things so as to "understand things better"
His statements were interpreted in Italy as a rejection of the "intelligent design" view, which says the universe is so complex that some higher being must have designed every detail.

Credo:
Darwinian Evolution is and has been known, as most definitly atheistic. Prod most any sinner, especially those who do so carnally, why they can base their actions on, they will eventually say, "Hey man, we're just animals ain't we?,"  or, "Why should I be a Christian if the Bible gets it wrong on the first page [in referance to Creation]?"        I will take a page out of the book The Killer Angels, and state by paraphrasing, "I may believe that you or I, sir, have desended from an ape. But I will not believe that Gen. Lee (in our case: Abraham, Moses, St. Joesph, or most pointedly, the Blessed Virgin Mary) is desended from some monkey."

This is so disgusting.  I'm so glad I didn't read this when I was a Protestant or I would have never given the Catholic church two minutes thought.

Isn't this the exact incompatibility with Darwinism that he claims doesn't exist?  What nonsense!  He negates his own argument.

I respectfully disagree Miss Fluffy,   Darwinism is primarily interested with the origin of Life and its… well evolution.   The Universe comprises a lot more then just life on Earth. You need to take into account all the matter, all the natural laws by which the world obey, the vastness of the Cosmos etc…   Life on earth (and perhaps elsewhere we might find at some point in time) is really just a small portion of all the vastness of creation.   The sentence stands very well if you understand it like this.
