The Point   LINK

Edited Under Fr. Leonard Feeney M.I.C.M. — Saint Benedict Center

 December, 1955

There will be much talk this December about “putting Christ back into  Christmas. Tragically, in all the holy commotion which will accompany  this talk, not one person will speak up and ask that most pertinent  question: “But who took Him out in the first place?”

The  answer is in no sense a seasonal one. For the attack that threatens  Christmas each December is part of an all-out, full-time offensive —  which will be striking at our parochial schools next March, at our New  Testament next May, and at the basic Christian structure of our country  next October. It is born of an enmity as old as our Faith. And it is  sustained, from father to son, by that curse which a Jerusalem mob  called down upon itself when it cried, “Crucify Him! His Blood be upon  us and upon our children!”

The drive to “put Christ back  into Christmas” makes the ancient enemy only half worried — for, at  best, it leaves our shattered word “Christmas” only half restored. It  is The Point ’s lonely battle cry this December that Christmas  be entirely salvaged — that, purged of the tinsel and the trappings, it  may become, for all our readers, the Holy and Joyous celebration of  “Christ’s Mass.”

Israeli Inquiry

     Q. What will be one of the main objectives of the Jews in America during 1956?

A.  They will be striving, with accelerated fervor, to maneuver America  into the role of big brother to the State of Israel, the protector of  its interests and the conqueror of its foes.

  Q. What led the Jews to choose the year 1956 for this campaign?

A.  The presidential elections in November — an event which causes  politicians to cast greedy eyes upon the fat bloc of Jewish votes,  ready to fall into the lap of whatever candidate makes the most  enticing offers.

  Q. Have the Jews published any announcement of their election-year plans?

A. As outlined in the Bulletin  of the Zionist Organization of America, their intention is “to swing  American public opinion to come to Israel’s aid and exert pressure on  the Administration of the kind which proved successful in 1947 and  1948, without which the State of Israel would not have come into  being.”

  Q. Under what guise are the Jews trying to win American opinion to their side?

A.  They are portraying Israel as a beleaguered little democracy, America’s  one friend in the Middle East, struggling for existence against hordes  of Communist-dominated Arab neighbors.

  Q. Is there evidence that this portrayal is not quite accurate?

A. Much, three samples of which follow:

1)  The official report on immigration to Israel, published by the U. S.  Department of Commerce, reveals that most Israelis come from (and  necessarily with the blessings of) Soviet Russia and her satellites.

 2) As a result of the August elections, the Israeli parliament (the  Knesset) is composed of the following elements. Of the Knesset’s 120  seats, forty belong to the Socialist Labor Party (Mapai), an affiliate  of the Second International; fifteen belong to the Freedom Party  (Herut), political arm of those reportedly-outlawed terrorist gangs  whose atrocities shocked the civilized world; ten belong to the Unity  of Labor (Ahdut Avoda), an avowedly Marxist group; nine belong to the  United Workers Party (Mapam), which advocates “the revolutionary class  struggle” and “a firm bond between the workers of the world and the  Soviet Union”; and six belong to the Communist Party of Israel — making  a total of eighty seats for these extremist factions, or two-thirds of  the parliament’s membership.

3) In June of 1950, an American  journalist was told by an official at the Vatican’s Department for  Extraordinary Affairs, that the state of Israel is “obviously an  outpost of the Soviet Union in the Middle East.” When the journalist  objected that the major Israeli party is Socialist and not Communist,  he was told, “It is all camouflage. These people are of one mind when  it comes to the Christian religion. They are out to de-Christianize the  Levant as part of a world-wide plot to destroy what is left of  Christian morality.”

Q. If Zionism and Communism  are, then, so closely akin why is Israel presently scorning Russia and  turning to the U. S. for help?

A. This is a move not of necessity,  but of prudence. The large quantities of planes, tanks, and guns Israel  has already amassed have come to her mainly from behind the Iron  Curtain, and Russia is still willing to keep Israel fortified, as she  made clear immediately upon announcement of her arms-deal with Egypt.  The Jews, however, are genuinely alarmed about the Arab nations, whose  lands they have usurped, whose villages they have ravaged and  destroyed, whose people they have slaughtered.

Fearful lest  the pent-up rage of the Arab world should finally burst upon them, the  Jews want to see the Arabs knocked out once and for all, leaving Israel  undisputed mistress of the Middle East. If Russia were to take on the  assignment, there would be a danger of the U. S. stepping in on the  side of the Arabs. Consequently, the Jews are creating the illusion  that Israel is herself a victim of Communist aggression — hopeful that  the U. S. can thereby be induced to come to her “defense.”

 Q. Is there no chance that this Jewish scheme will be frustrated?

A.  There is an excellent chance that Americans, weary of fighting  fruitless wars, will take the trouble to discover that they are now  being invited to do and die for no other purpose than to exalt the  Jewish nation — whereupon the Jews are likely to find their boldness  met with an unexpectedly formidable reaction.

  Q. Is this the only hope of defeating the Jews?

A.  There is another and better one. It is the wan but still-living hope  that the remnants of Christendom, struck with the terrible realization  that the land hallowed by the Birth and Death of Christ is now in the  hands of His implacable enemies, will arise and rally to that  now-more-pertinent call which Pope Urban II issued to the first  Crusaders: “Mark out a path all the way to the Holy Sepulcher and  snatch the Holy Land from that abominable people!”

Christian Reminder

For anyone who wonders whether there is provocation for a present-day  Catholic Crusade to rescue the Holy Land, we are concluding this issue  with a partial list of the atrocities and desecrations which the Jews  have committed in Palestine since 1948. (We make no attempt to indicate  here the loss in lives and property suffered by the nearly one million  Arabs who have been evicted from their ancient homes during the past  seven years.)

The Jews have defiled and destroyed the following  Church buildings: the Church of Saint John the Baptist at Am Karim, the  Church of the Beatitudes at Capharnaum, the Church of Mensa Christi on  the shores of the Sea of Galilee, the Church of Saint Peter at  Tiberias, the Cenacle (the place of the Last Supper) at Jerusalem, the  Convent of Mary Reparatrix at Jerusalem, the Convent and Hospice of  Notre Dame at Jerusalem, the Convent of the Sisters of Saint Ann at  Haifa, the Franciscan Convent at Tiberias, the Patriarchal Seminary at  Beit-Jala, the Salesian houses at Cremisan, the Sisters’ Convent at Am  Karim, the School of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Sion at Katamon, the  Sisters’ residence at Capharnaum, the church and rectory at Ikret.  Catholic authorities have estimated that the Jews have destroyed Church  property in the Holy Land at the rate of more than two million dollars’  worth a year. To enumerate only French Catholic institutions, they have  demolished four hospitals, sixteen dispensaries, two hospices, four  seminaries, thirty-two schools and orphanages, and seven retreat  houses.

Among the countless other desecrations we might  mention, none is more heart-rending than that of Jerusalem’s Church of  the Dormition — the magnificent Romanesque shrine to the Mother of God  which was pillaged by Israeli soldiers and then turned into a Jewish  dance hall for the young men and women of Haganah. It was only after a  hundred such incidents that the Apostolic Delegate, Archbishop Hughes,  unequivocally charged that there is now in operation a “deliberate  Jewish effort to decimate the Arabs and to destroy Christianity in Palestine.”

GENERAL ASSEMBLY SECURITY COUNCIL
Thirty-fifth session Thirty-fifth year
REPORT OF THE SPECIAL COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE
ISRAELI PRACTICES AFFECTING THE HUMAN RIGHTS
OF THE POPULATION OF THE OCCUPIED TERRITORIES

Letter dated 5 February 1980 from the Permanent Representative of
Jordan to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General

I have the honour to bring to your attention the most ominous situation which has arisen in consequence of the recurring reports of Israeli elements in Jerusalem vandalizing and desecrating Jerusalem's Christian institutions.

It is tragically sad that the ecumenical spirit which has always been the hallmark of Jerusalem and its inhabitants should find itself a victim of such Zionist excesses in the Arab sector of Jerusalem occupied by Israel in 1967.

Press reports in Jerusalem have given detailed coverage on the recent violent attacks on the Christian institutions in Jerusalem and the lukewarm official response to the culprits which prompted the Christian organizations to send an appeal for international guarantees for the city's Holy Places and religious communities. In bold black and red Hebrew script, the scrawled slogans on the front of the Christian bookstore at 33 Street of the Prophets in Jerusalem have carried such messages as: "Missionaries!" "Pigs!" "Dirty dogs!" "Bloodsuckers!" "Get out of here!"

"Two weeks before, we had swastikas and slogans", said Charles Kopp, who owns the bookstore in Zion House. "We have our locks stuffed with matchsticks, glue. We had our place burned five years ago. They come in and tell us this is not our place, to leave. One of them said that he was the one who burned the place and he would do it again. There is occasional spitting on our window".

Four times, stones have been thrown and glass broken at the Dormition Basilica on Mount Zion on the site where the Blessed Virgin Mary is believed to have died. A spokesman for the Mayor said the Benedictine monks there had received threatening letters.

The Russian Orthodox Church in Jerusalem staffed by Orthodox Russian priests had windows broken and walls scrawled with slogans. Another Christian bookstore near the City Hall was visited by youths who threatened the owners if they did not close down. Two weeks later rocks were hurled through the shop's windows.

Occasionally, vandals enter the Anglican cemetery on Mount Zion and smash tombstones with crosses on them. Clerics believe the culprits are a band of Jewish vigilantes out to combat what they regard as an upsurge in Christian evangelism. Such activity had been the target of a resolution by the Orthodox Judaic Government" Agudat Israel" in its convention held in Jerusalem last month calling on the Israeli occupation authorities to curb Christian missionary work.

Mayor Teddy Kollek, aware that an integral condition to the creation of Israel in 1948 by the United Nations was the affirmation of right of religious institutions to remain in place unmolested, released a letter which he had sent to Prime Minister Begin.
It said, inter alia:

"This kind of vandalism pretends to be Holy War against the missionaries.

"A lack of a proper Government response at high level and strong
efficient police activity will allow hostile groups to use this situation to link the actions of religious zealots with a purposeful policy of the Government."

He added that he hoped that in the future the police would prevent these terrible acts. This in turn led to a barbed cartoon in the Jerusalem Post in which a television viewer, talking back to a news announcer says angrily:

"He's the Prime Minister! He's not supposed to hope! He's supposed
to do!"

To which the announcer replies:

"Don't knock it! It took two letters from Kollek to get the 'hope'
out of him."

The Police Minister, Yosef Burg, has been accused by many Israelis of treating religious extremists with kid gloves because he himself is a member of the National Religious Party.

This menacing situation, according to the Jerusalem Post and other Jordanian papers, has prompted local Christian groups to mention the vandalism in an appeal for international guarantees for the city's Holy Places of religious communities.

The statement signed by the Reverend Roy Kreider of the predominantly Protestant United Christian Council in Israel, Father Ignazio Mancini of the Roman Catholic Christian Information Centre and Father Bargil Pixner, of the Dormition Abbey refers to incidents in which young people, believed to be members of the right-wing extremist Kach group, smashed stained glass windows at the Dormition Abbey, damaged property at the Baptist House on Rehov Narkiss and tried to destroy a Christian display at the centre.

A spokesman said that this was the first time such a statement had been signed by Christian groups from both pre-1967 Israeli occupation of Jerusalem and the West Bank. It is also the first statement by local churchmen relating anti-Christian vandalism to a demand for an "internationally guaranteed special statute concerning the rights and liberties of the three great monotheistic faiths in Jerusalem".

The attacks, it says, are motivated by "an exclusivist view of the character of the city of Jerusalem", and "it is therefore opportune to reaffirm that the Christian community in all its rich diversity, is present in Jerusalem as of right and on an equal footing with the other two great monotheistic faiths".

"The impression is persistent and pervasive within the Christian community that the civil authorities have so far failed to exhaust all the possibilities open to them to curb such manifestations … It is not infrequently felt and said within the Christian community that the perpetrators of such acts enjoy a relative impunity." It adds that such an impression ought to constitute a singular motive to prove that the contrary is the case.

The recent incidents, in an obvious reference to Kach, an extremist Israeli movement, seem to involve a new element, noted more for its racialist agitation impact of similar ideologies a generation ago".

The statement by the Christian organizations of various denominations mentions the murder of a Greek Orthodox monk at Jacob's Well in Nablus last year, and points to the lack of information about the police investigation or even an interim report. The spokesman for the signers said that the absence of information has given rise in some circles to rumours that Jewish zealots murdered the monk.

The "internationally guaranteed special stature", it says, "is desired by the churches as well as by the international community" and it adds that such a statute "could not and should not impinge on, or prejudice questions of sovereignty and political boundaries". It asks the "civil authorities" to firmly put an end to "the present wave of anti-Christian fanaticism and vandalism".

Despite its forthright wording, the statement is not addressed to any particular person or government body. The spokesman explained that the signers, who represent churches which do not recognize the Israeli annexation of East Jerusalem (or for that matter Israeli rule over West Jerusalem), were hesitant to address the Government. An appeal to the mayor was considered, but the spokesman said that Mayor Teddy Kollek is the one public official who has acted with complete propriety. The city even repaired damage to church property.

According to the spokesman, the Orthodox and Uniate Churches were in agreement with the statement, although they did not sign it. If the present statement brings no results, the spokesman said, then the local churches would take their case abroad to the churches around the world.

The aforementioned reports are not only seriously disturbing, but they are in flagrant violation of the United Nations resolutions, particularly those relating to the protection of Holy Places and the ensuring of religious freedom for adherents of all faiths, as well as in blatant violation of the fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 relating to the protection of civilians under occupation. 1/

Before the Israeli occupation of Arab Jerusalem in 1967, the City enjoyed the serenity, the veneration and the tolerance which are characteristics of Jerusalem as the City of God and Peace. It is indeed a disaster of colossal dimensions that under Israeli occupation, this serene city, venerated by almost two billion people of the Christian and Islamic worlds should become rampant with vandalism, religious intolerance and acts of violence unknown before.

The desecration, vandalism and destruction of Islamic holy sites have been reported and proven to the world community ever since the occupation of 1967 and it is unnecessary at this point to recount them because they are in the records of both the General Assembly and the Security Council, which have consistently condemned them in no unmistaken terms.

It is the earnest hope and urgent request of the Government of Jordan that the United Nations will take the most serious view of the abyss into which Jerusalem has fallen since the Israeli occupation and act promptly to bring the Israeli occupation of Arab Jerusalem into accountability and to take effective measures to restore Jerusalem's unique position as the spiritual centre of the three great monotheistic faiths.

I request Your Excellency that this communication be circulated as an official document of the General Assembly, under the item entitled "Report of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Population of the Occupied Territories", and of the Security Council.

(Signed) Hazem NUSEIBEH
Ambassador
Permanent Representative

Quote

"In medieval legends, the Jews were often perceived as enemies of the Virgin. The Talmud refers to her in the most blasphemous and hostile way. A certain column-stump on Jerusalem’s Via Dolorosa marks the place of a legendary attack of Jews on her person, while in Antioch in 592, Jews were found despoiling her image. These are old tales. And now some new facts. This week in Bethlehem, a Jew shelled the Virgin. A Jewish soldier in the formidable tank Merkava-3, constructed according to US technology at US taxpayer’s expense fired a shell from a distance of fifty yards at the statue of the Madonna a-top the Holy Family church in the Nativity town.

"The Virgin lost an arm, and her pretty face was disfigured. She became one of a hundred Palestinian women shot by the Jews in the present outburst of war. This seemingly unnecessary act of vandalism could not be an accidental shot. No terrorist hidden behind her gentle figure on the pinnacle of the hospital church. At fifty yards, you make no mistake. It could be orders; it could be a spontaneous expression of feelings by a Jewish fanatic. Our world rewinds full speed back into Dark Ages, and as Israel rekindled traditional Jewish hostile rejection of Christianity, it cannot be excluded.

"Whatever it was meant to be, that shrapnel-shot became the most recent check of the mind-control system: will this sacrilege become widely known? And will it stir the hearts of Christendom? It remained unknown, for Christendom did not respond to the siege of the Nativity as much as Muslims did at the Jewish fundamentalists’ sacrilege at Haram a-Sharif. The doubly negative result of the check probably confirmed the greatest hopes of its initiators. The world mass media, from New York to Moscow via Paris and London, has been secured in the grip of philosemites; not a squeak gets out unless authorised. The current Israeli invasion of Ramallah and Bethlehem was covered under the heading ‘Sharon looks for peace’. The UN resolution equalized the aggressors and their victims, sotto voce. The Western mainstream media dropped a blanket of silence on the cries from the Holy Land. " (Israel Shamir, "Our Lady of Sorrow")

Quote

"The defanged Right in America properly described as "kosher conservative" has for decades been unwilling to breath a word about Israeli murder of Christians--as for example the Israeli bomb planted in a Maronite Catholic Church in Lebanon in 1994--timed to go off when parishioners were at the communion rail; this bomb killed about a dozen Catholics and wounded dozens more. There's nothing about it in "The Wanderer" newspaper or Buckley's "National Review" magazine or any of the other conservative organs which publish bombastic and mostly mendacious or exaggerated exposes and editorials against the easy target that is Islam.

"The Talmudic basis of such Christianocide can be rather easily documented; cf. for example http://www.hoffman-info.com/talmudtruth.html, or peruse the history of the Bolshevik revolution, as when Lazar Kaganovich gloated that "Mother Russia is cast down!" when the Cathedral of Christ was razed in Moscow. Or when Zinoviev called for "More Blood! An ocean of blood! As much as possible!" Or when Ilya Ehrenburg proclaimed "Kill! Kill! Kill."

"The American Right, being effectively a tool of the Israeli fundamentalists, has forgotten the history of the Jewish annihilation of Christians in the 20th century. All it can do is parrot the party line of congenital liar Benjamin Netanyahu, who pretends that Muslims fight not for economic and social justice in their lands, but because they resent "The Triumph of the West." This canard is retailed by a representative of the very ideology that has fashioned the most pernicious of all subversions of the West, the "Holocaust" tale, which claims that traditional Christianity is the pathology that led to Auschwitz. Netanyahu's anti-Christianite ideology has replaced Calvary with Auschwitz as the central ontological axis of history and yet he has the brass to pose as a champion of the West.

"The American Right adores this ideology and this is why I have nothing but contempt for them; most especially in their current excoriation of the Muslim masses for wanting an end to banker's usury, to Hollywood kulchur, to carpet bombing of Muslim cities (Beirut in the summer of 1982; Baghdad in 1991) and massacres of civilians (Qana, Lebanon 1996, Al Aqsa mosque September, 2000), et hoc genus omne.

"The White House has labeled Hizbollah a terrorist group. Yet it was Hizbollah that drove the Israeli occupiers out of Lebanon and liberated the El Khiam concentration camp. Hizbollah's attack on the US Marine barracks in 1983 can be laid squarely at the door of Reagan's National Security chief Robert C. McFarlane. The US Marines were getting along famously with the Arabs in Beirut. This enraged the Zionists who advised McFarlane to "create an incident," which he did by ordering the naval bombardment of Lebanese villages in the Shouf Mountains, shortly after which the Marine barracks went up in smoke.

"Americans seem amazed that faithful Muslims cannot be bought off with glitzy prostitutes, cable TV, cash or any of the other allurements of our Judeo-Masonic empire. The American Right is especially appalled since they long ago decided to cast off the West's traditional Biblical, Shakespearean and Dickensian teaching about the Jews and acquiesce to Jewish power in one of the most cowardly abdications in memory. With their tongues turned to sandpaper from licking Israeli boots, they rage in fury at Muslims for having the very same backbone and moral mettle their ancestors once displayed toward the same foe.

"It is rather foolish to cite the Crusades in this context. The Right Wing hasn't been on a crusade since Joe McCarthy died. Nowadays it crusades only against that which Judaism approves as a target. Patriotism and border control are discredited until enemies of Jews make war upon us or until enemies of Jews sneak across our border; then flag-waving and border control are all the vogue. Today's Richard the Lionheart has to check with the Grand Rabbi before pointing his lance in any direction. But the Saladins of today are as courageous, defiant and honorable as the original.

"True, certain Muslim fanatics have learned lessons in cruelty from our napalm and Apache helicopter gunships and now attack our civilians as indiscriminately as we did in Desert Storm and as our bosom buddies the Israelis do in occupied Palestine. (It may be that certain Muslims do this with deep cover direction from our own Cryptocracy, a point I am researching with regard to the Sept. 11 Twin Towers and Pentagon catastrophe).

"The Muslims attack our bodies and Judeo-Churchianity and the American Right thunder cosmic anathemas at them. How unwestern. The Old Right and orthodox Christianity would have been faithful to our civilization's foundational text. In the New Testament it is written, "We fear not those who can kill our bodies, but those who can kill our souls."

"I fear not the occasional Muslim madman driven crazy by our Talmudic contempt for the humanity of his mother and children whom we barbecued in Baghdad and-- through our proxy Ariel Sharon --in Beirut in '82 as well. Rather, I am vigilant against the Steven Spielbergs, Rob Reiners and Jeffrey Katzenbergs who kill our souls with the poisonous Hollywood sewage which has been heaping Talmudic waste on our culture, ethics and civilization for the past forty years; something no Muslim has done.

"While perusing your righteous right wing tabloids with their editorial hot air about the dastardly Muslim menace, take in a matinee of the children's movie "Shrek," from the Spielberg-Katzenberg "Dreamworks" studios; a much acclaimed appendage of the western syphilization which we are proudly defending against the "Middle Eastern hordes." As you watch the good ogre knock a Catholic monk unconscious and the good dragon trash a Catholic cathedral to a ruin little different from that exhibited by Kaganovich in Moscow, let me know what crusade you and the kosher conservative combatants you heed, intend to wage against soul-robbery on so vast a scale."

"Jerusalem's dirty little secret "

God be praised! The truth is finally leaking out, at long last!

Unprecedented admission--from a Judaic newspaper based in NY-- of anti-Christian hate crimes in the Israeli state--church windows smashed, garbage dumped and relentless, filthy spitting--even by women and children!

Church Flap In Jerusalem: Bad Blood — And Saliva

By Eric J. Greenberg

Forward (newspaper, New York) October 22, 2004

EXTRACT

[Michael A. Hoffman II's expert commentary is interspersed within the text of this extract].

It has been Jerusalem's dirty little secret for decades: Orthodox yeshiva students and other Jewish residents vandalizing churches and spitting on Christian clergyman as they walk along the narrow, ancient stone streets of the Old City.

Now, however, following a highly publicized fracas last week (actually Oct. 10--Hoffman) between a yeshiva student and the archbishop of Jerusalem's Armenian Church, the issue is generating unprecedented media attention in Israel. The fight started after a yeshiva student at the respected Har Hamor yeshiva spat on Archbishop Nourhan Manougian during a Christian holy procession in the Old City...

"These ultra-Orthodox Jews are the ones causing this scandal, those that live here in our neighborhood and the ones that come visit the Western Wall," said...(a top Armenian) church official, Aris Shirvanian, in a phone interview Monday (Oct. 18). He spoke from the patriarchate's world headquarters in the Armenian Quarter, one of the famed four quarters of the Old City of Jerusalem...

Har Hamor is one of the leading institutions of religious Zionism, Israel's equivalent of Modern Orthodoxy. Most sources interviewed for this article suggested that the abusive practices were more common in the ultra-Orthodox or Haredi community, which is characterized by greater insularity. But sources told the Forward that the pratice has recently been picked up by other segments of the Orthodox world, including visiting American yeshiva students.

The controversy comes as the Israeli government and Diaspora Jewish organizations have been attempting to focus international attention on what they describe as a surge in antisemitism across the globe. Beyond potentially undermining these efforts, the reports of anti-Christian harassment could weaken Israel's claim to be an effective guardian of Christian and Muslim rights in Jerusalem...

Besides the Armenian rite, clergy of other Christian churches have been targeted, Shirvanian said. "This is not happening only to Armenian clergy, but also to the Catholics, Syrians, Romanians and Greek Orthodox."

...According to Shirvanian, church officials are frequently subjected to spitting, from yeshiva students as well as from ultra-Orthodox women and young children. He said ultra-Orthodox Jews also throw garbage on church doorsteps and break windows at churches and at Christian homes.

Daniel Rossing, a former adviser on Christian affairs at Israel's Religious Affairs Ministry, said there has been an increase in the number of such incidents recently, "as part of a general atmosphere of lack of tolerance in the country."

"I know Christians who lock themselves indoors during the entire Purim holiday" for fear of being attacked by Jews, said Rossing, now the director of a Jerusalem center for Christian-Jewish dialogue.

A spate of recent incidents has been reported in the press:

A few weeks ago, an elderly man wearing a yarmulke spat on a senior Greek Orthodox cleric who was entering a government office in Jerusalem's Givat Shaul section.

Stars of David were spray-painted on the entrance to the Monastery of the Cross, not far from the Knesset. The Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Cathedral, near Jerusalem police headquarters, in the so-called Russian Compound in downtown Jerusalem, suffered similar vandalism.

Churches located in several Orthodox neighborhoods in Jerusalem complained that neighbors had thrown garbage into their yards.

The Armenian call for action comes several days after Manougian was spat upon while leading a procession marking the Exaltation of the Holy Cross near the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in the Old City.

In response, Manougian slapped the yeshiva student, Natan Zvi Rosenthal, 21, a resident of Beersheva. During the ensuing brawl Manougian's cross medallion, worn by Armenian archbishops since the 17th century, was damaged.

Police questioned both men (and were considering arresting the Armenian bishop: see Haaretz, Oct. 11 --Hoffman). The Jerusalem District Court barred Rosenthal from entering the Old City for 75 days.

Israel's failure to impose a harsher penalty drew sharp criticism from Manougian. "When there is an attack against Jews anywhere in the world, the Israeli government is incensed," the patriarch was quoted as saying. "So why, when our religion and pride are hurt, don't they take harsher measures?"

On Sunday (Oct. 17), Israel's Knesset held an emergency meeting and launched an investigation into the apparently rising level of assaults against Christian clergy and churches.

But by then, the incident was reverberating throughout the world, with more stories in the Israeli press of harassment and vandalism directed by Orthodox Jews against several denominations.

Even as the Knesset's Interior and Environment Committee was interviewing Christian leaders and Jerusalem officials, a 6-year-old Haredi boy spat on a young Armenian priest, Shirvanian told the Forward.

In keeping with a long-standing approach, the church did not report the second spitting incident to the police. "When a little boy and little girl do this, they are being taught by their parents," Shirvanian
said...

The spitting on priests has been occurring "since the unification of Jerusalem in 1967," Shirvanian said.

Scholars contacted by the Forward cited several ancient rabbinic sources as potential sources of anti-Christian attitudes.

At least one talmudic passage advises Jews to say pejorative things when passing the homes or graves of idolators, and while most rabbinic authorities have denied Christianity was intended, some medieval commentators seem to suggest that some Jews viewed it that way, presumably reflecting Jewish resentment of Christian persecution.

(Most rabbinic authorities lie to the goyim about the obligation to curse, i.e. "say pejorative things" when passing gentile graves and Christian churches; however there is a unambiguous halakhic command to do so. I have the exact wording of the curse and I know the exact rabbinic source for the command --Hoffman).

Shirvanian said the Armenian church has generally "tried to ignore" the spitting incidents. He said most Christians do not report the incidents to the police because the authorities ignore them. "They just take the reports and of course, they release the offenders."

A Jerusalem police spokesman, Gil Kleiman...confirmed that Christian clergy complain the harassment is frequent. But it took the attack on the Armenian leader to transform the matter into a public issue and national embarrassment.

Shmuel Evyatar, a former adviser on Christian affairs to the mayor of Jerusalem, called the situation "a huge disgrace," adding that most of the instigators are yeshiva students studying in the Old City who view the Christian religion with disdain. "I'm sure the phenomenon would end as soon as rabbis and well-known educator denounce it. In practice, rabbis of yeshivas ignore or even encourage it," he said.

Rabbi Avi Shafran, a spokesman for Agudath Israel of America, the leading advocacy organization of ultra-Orthodox Judaism here, said he was unfamiliar with assaults on Christians (Ha! --Hoffman).

"Were something of the sort to occur in the United States, our rabbinic leadership would likely address the issue," Shafran said. "Since, though, the incident and the accusation of more widespread abuse have taken place in Israel, our rabbis would leave any response to the incident and to the demands of Armenian clergymen to the rabbinic leaders in the Holy Land."

(End quote)

Note that Rabbi Shafran of Agudath Israel refuses to condemn these anti-Christian hate crimes; using a pretext to avoid doing so. (See "Revisionist History" newsletter no. 35 for a rare photograph of Catholic Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) being given his marching orders from the rabbis of Agudath Israel).

The fact is, no amount of hand-wringing or rhetoric will, of itself, alter the milieu that makes these anti-Christian hate crimes possible.

Only the formal and solemn repudiation of the hateful anti-Gentile and anti-Christian polemic in the Mishnah, Gemara, Zohar, Mishneh Torah, Shulchan Aruch, Tanya and the rest of the rabbinic canon, which is imparted to Judaic youth at an early age, will bring any kind of genuine respite.

Nothing less will do. No face-saving, band-aid approach will protect Christians. Only repentance and reparation on the part of the leaders of Judaism for the foul imprecations and teachings in the Talmud and rabbinic holy books, will suffice.

I repeat my challenge to the orthodox rabbis of Judaism: if you deny that there is a command incumbent on Judaics to curse the graves and churches of the gentiles and Christians, debate this writer in public and on videotape and I will prove you a liar before the whole world, by furnishing the exact text of the curse and its authoritative rabbinic
source.

Since I first made this challenge in the Hoffman Wire column of October 11, the question must be asked if the preceding article from Forward newspaper published this week, with its mention of "At least one talmudic passage (which) advises Jews to say pejorative things when passing the homes or graves of idolators," is not an attempt at damage control in relation to the original challenge in the Hoffman Wire column?

In other words, they seem to be conceding some of the substance of my charge, but muddying it by surrounding it with the usual weasel words about "idolators."

Yet the yeshiva student who did the spitting has admitted he was taught to equate Christians with idolators, so the explanatory apologetics fail to defuse the horrendous fact that "one of the world's great religions" commands its followers to curses the graves of gentiles and defile the churches of Christians and the person of their clergymen.

This is an incendiary truth which is now out in the open for all those who have eyes to see!

The hate against Christian churches is deeply rooted within Talmudic Judaism since the 5th century AD, and in fact since apostolic times.

Just read the book of this Lithuanian priest, who was just one of the professors to point to the anti-Catholic tendency among Jews:

May God protect the dear fatherland. Go on working for him... oh, you dear Savior!") - Clemens August Cardinal von Galen, his last words.
