Quote

"The point was that it is wrong, under Jewish law, for a person's life to be taken by a person but, for a machine, it is acceptable," a parliamentary spokesman said.

"A man would not be able to shorten human life but a machine can."

Will you look at that loophole ...

This is Talmudic reasoning--that which "conservative Catholic," Antonin Scalia says he is "fascinated by," so much so that he was instrumental in opening a yeshiva in Washington D.C. for instructing American judges and lawyers on Talmudic "law"--"law" such as that referenced in the news piece above.

This is the reasoning of the Talmudists whom JPII and Benedict emphatically tell us are "our elder brothers in the faith."

The revelations of this news piece do put things into proper perspective though, don't they.

Pharisaical is right.  This should remind us of Our Lord's treatment at the hands of the Pharisees.  They could not kill Jesus themselves because they wanted to follow the letter of the law.  So they rationalized handing him off to Pilate as if this lessened their culpability.

Create a machine to murder on the behalf of the Pharisees.  Then the machine was the brutally efficient Roman method of crucifixion complete with Pilate’s Barabbas escape, which the Pharisees ignored.  Today the machine is a brutally efficient mechanical device complete with a timer that can be ignored.
