The Brown Scapular is meant to be worn all the time -- Our Lady's promise:  "whosoever dies clothed in this shall never suffer eternal fire .... It shall be a sign of salvation, a protection in danger, and a pledge of peace."

You don't know when you are going to die, so why take a chance and take it off?  The promise of course doesn't mean that everyone who wears it will be saved, regardless if you're in the state of grace or not.  It's not a "once saved, always saved" kind of belief.  It requires living chastely according to one's state of life (one of the requirements of the Sabbatine Privilege).

The holy Rosary can be substituted in place of saying the Little Office the the Blessed Virgin Mary.

On the Sabbatine Privilege, Our Lady said:
"I, the Mother of Grace, shall descend on the Saturday after their death and whomsoever I shall find in Purgatory, I shall free, so that I may lead them to the holy mountain of life everlasting."  This means if you die on a Saturday, you pass Purgatory (this privilege applies to those who have gained a plenary indulgence -- a complete remittance of all sins and its penalties -- at the time of death).  Again, of course, there are conditions attached:  Five First Saturdays, Confession (with an octave), received Holy Communion, spend 15 minutes meditating the Mysteries of the Rosary.

i was inrolled in the Brown scapular shortly after my First Holy Communion, I wore it all the time, then i got hold of a scapular medal and wore that, now i'm back to wearing the scapular itself, i say the rosary every day so i hope i'm saved!

i have a friend who actually wears the green scapular, but i dont know much about it! i've also seen the 5-fold scapulars, i need to investigate them !

Little Angel

The scapular is not to be worn in medal form. The only medal scapulars (pendants) allowed are for those in Africa; bushmen, tribes due to the heat and humidity and the cloth scapulars just fell apart way too quickly.

How do I know this? I had one, my priest (who is Trad) stopped me and told me that I was not allowed to wear it, only cloth scapular allowed; only dispensation has been given to those Catholics in Africa. He did mention a Pope that said this implicitly, but I apologize I do not recall which.

In 1910 Pope St. Pius X declared that the cloth Scapular, after enrollment, could be replaced by a medal which has on one side an image of Our Lady - this exception to be used only in torrid zones among natives. He then said: "I believe in the Scapular vision  I desire most vehemently that the cloth be worn as heretofore."

FYI, creimann, the brown scapular is to be worn next to the skin, not outside our garments, even an undershirt.

To neglect to say the Rosary if you have promised to say it is not a sin, unless it be a sin of spiritual sloth (and would likely be venial).  To forget something is not culpable.  It is to be avoided by employing the means to remind us, and to make our daily habits regular, but mere absence of mind at times is simply to be a fallen human.  The will must always be involved, in one way or another, for something to be a sin.
