Author Topic: how do you all pronounce "Isreal"  (Read 821 times)

when referring to Isreal like in a prayer or when reading the D-R I pronounce "Isreal" "Ees-rah-ayl", just like I would if I was reading it in Latin.

When saying the "Isreal" as in "the land that is properly called Palastine is now called Isreal" I pronounce it "iz-ree-ul".

how do you all pronounce Isreal?

Tyler,

I know it was an easy mistake, but it is Israel, not Isreal.

I usually use two syllables when referring to the country (iz-rail), and three (with the DR "phonetics") when praying, reading Holy Writ, etc.

My mistake.   I mean "eez-rye-el" or something like that, which is the "liturgical" pronunciation, if you know that (and if such can be said to exist).
