St.Thomas Aquinas on Women
Sophia:
Welcome to the forum, FlosCarmeli. Quote from: FlosCarmeli
This is not really a scientific article in the Summa, it is theological; therefore I would believe his statements to be true.
As regards the theological aspect of the article, yes. The quotation from Aristotle in the first objection, however, is referring to something from biology, and since Aristotle's biology has long ago been disproved, it is not safe to assume that the first part of the reply is correct. That is not to say that St. Thomas made an error in his conclusion; he didn't. The error was Aristotle's, which St. Thomas used as a first principle.
FlosCarmeli:
Thomas here is not disagreeing with Aristotle. He is only expounding upon that which was unspecified, although Aristotle may have been wrong in his biology (which I would like to see), he is not wrong in the context that Thomas quotes him in. This article should be read very closely with the Latin.
Kephapaulos:
So basically St. Thomas is giving one reason why men and women are different materially.

I didn't say that he did. What I write should be very carefully read before you comment on it.
